Use the following tables to calculate the size (in inches) of bleed and safety margin required for your design.

Rectangular

  × H
Order size ×   Write in the size of your order (trim size). A business card would be 3.5 × 2.
Bleed area × +0.25 add 0.25 to the width and write it in the column, then do the same for height.
Safety margin × -0.5 subtract 0.5 from the width (bleed area) and write it in the column, then do the same for height.

Circular

  Diameter
Order size     Write in the diameter size of your order.
Bleed area   +0.25 add 0.25 to and write it in the column.
Safety margin   -0.5 subtract 0.5 from the width (bleed area) and write it in.

Shaped

Order shape
Bleed area The bleed area will be 0.125 inches outside the shape (or a 9pt stroke applied to the outside of the shape).
Safety margin The safety zone will be 0.25 inches inside the shape, we recommend keeping all important information as far away from the edges as possible.

You have now calculated the bleed, and safety margin sizes for your order. Use these to set up guides for your design.
