Use the following tables to calculate the size (in inches) of bleed and safety margin required for your design.
Rectangular
W × H | |||
Order size | × | Write in the size of your order (trim size). A business card would be 3.5 × 2. |
|
Bleed area | × | +0.25 | add 0.25 to the width and write it in the column, then do the same for height. |
Safety margin | × | -0.5 | subtract 0.5 from the width (bleed area) and write it in the column, then do the same for height. |
Circular
Diameter | |||
Order size | Write in the diameter size of your order. |
||
Bleed area | +0.25 | add 0.25 to and write it in the column. | |
Safety margin | -0.5 | subtract 0.5 from the width (bleed area) and write it in. |
Shaped
Order shape | |
Bleed area | The bleed area will be 0.125 inches outside the shape (or a 9pt stroke applied to the outside of the shape). |
Safety margin | The safety zone will be 0.25 inches inside the shape, we recommend keeping all important information as far away from the edges as possible. |
You have now calculated the bleed, and safety margin sizes for your order. Use these to set up guides for your design.
