Spot Gloss is only available on our 20pt Soft Touch stock (which is a white stock). Spot Gloss cannot be applied to uncoated materials like 18pt Mohawk Ultrawhite stock, as coatings like Spot Gloss require a compatible surface.
Design Guidelines
What Underlying Color Is Recommended for Glossed Text or Logos?
For optimal results, the glossed text or logo should have an underlying black base. This is referred to as "blind spot gloss" as it does not require any printed element beneath it for alignment.
What File Format Should I Provide for Spot Gloss?
You should submit a vector file (PDF, AI, or EPS) specifically denoting the Spot Gloss areas. If a vector is unavailable, you may indicate where the gloss varnish should be applied directly on your design.
If you'd like a Premium Black stock but want a similar appearance to spot gloss, choose a clear or black foil. For a more cost effective alternative, opt for our 18pt Suede stock with Spot Black ink, though this option is only available on one side. You will have to go with a different print process on the other. Additionally, Spot Gloss can be combined with gold foil stamping on double-sided business cards, provided the two finishes do not overlap. For custom shapes or combined features, send your artwork for a detailed review by our production team.
