Should I upload single pages or spreads?

Updated this week

You should upload your inside pages as individual, single-page files — not as spreads.

What’s a spread? A spread is when two pages appear side-by-side, like when you're looking at a book opened to pages 4 and 5. Some design programs show spreads by default, but we need each page saved separately.

Why we need single pages:

  • Spreads can shift during binding

  • Important content might be cut off or misaligned

  • Pages are easier to prep and print when uploaded one at a time

How to name your files:

  • Use simple names like page1.pdf, page2.pdf, page3.pdf, and so on

Important exception: The cover should be submitted as a spread — this means:

  • Page 1: Full outside cover (includes the back cover, spine, and front cover as one file)

  • Page 2: Full inside cover (includes inside back, inside spine, and inside front)

This format ensures the spine and wrap-around design lines up correctly during binding.

If you’re not sure how to prep it, just reach out — we’ll guide you.
