When printing in CMYK, black can be rendered in different ways. The two types of black we recommend are K100 Black and Rich Black. K100 Black is straightforward, with only black ink used (100% black). Rich Black, on the other hand, is a blend of all four CMYK colors, creating a deeper and more intense black. However, Rich Black should only be used in specific circumstances to ensure the best print quality.
100K Black
CMYK Value: 0, 0, 0, 100
Rich Black
CMYK Value: 60, 40, 40, 100
The differences between these blacks may be subtle on screen, but they can be quite noticeable in print. Here’s how to use each effectively:
K100 Black
Use K100 Black for:
Text: Ideal for body text and smaller text to ensure sharp and clear printing.
Screens and Tints: To create shades of grey.
Gradients: For smooth transitions and subtle shading.
Rich Black
Use Rich Black for:
Large Areas of Solid Black: Perfect for achieving a deep, rich black in large printed areas.
Large Heading Text: Recommended for text over 16pt font size to make headings stand out.
Important Note
For the best print output, regardless of whether you choose K100 Black or Rich Black, it's important to supply vector files. This ensures the highest quality and precision in your printed materials.
